The Importance of "Us Time".

This past week Michael and I had the opportunity to attend a pro-life event in San Francisco so we decided to take a few extra days as a little vacation. Arrangements were made for everyone at home to be cared for and off we went.

On this get-away, I realized how much I missed my husband. While doing all the things tourists do in San Francisco, we found ourselves doing things we used to do while dating and as newlyweds .... holding hands while walking down the street, sharing our hopes and dreams over dinner, enjoying sunsets and sunrises ... and laughing.

Family obligations, ministries, my writing and his job are very important in our lives; however, I am determined not to put our marriage on the back-burner again. God blessed me with a wonderful husband - my rock and best friend - and I will no longer take that for granted.  We don't have to be away from home to reconnect ... we just need to make sure we set aside "Us Time"...even if it's just sitting on our porch looking out at the horizon.

May your fountain be blessed, and may you rejoice in the wife of your youth. (Proverbs 5:18)

Have a Blessed Day!

  1. Thanks, Patti. It's true - we often get so busy with the "urgent" things in our lives that we forget about what's important to us. I'm looking forward to a weekend get-away with my husband this weekend :)

  2. I agree! My husband and I have a date night 2-4 times per month. It really helps us share down time and connect after a busy week. We keep it within our budget, and it's just so nice to get out together. So glad you had a good time while away!

  3. I learned how fast things can change when my Beloved was diagnosed with leukemia. Every day became precious to us. Now, I spend as much time as I can with my elderly Mom.

    1. So sorry Susan. Time is precious and that's why most of our "us time" will be on the porch with my mom failing so fast. I was hesitant leaving town for so long, but mom and dad both insisted we go.

  4. "Us time" is extremely important, but how often it takes a back seat to work, raising a family, etc. (I'm as guilty as anyone!) Lately my husband and I have been sitting down in the evenings and watching movies together fairly often, and we're planning our first 'just the two of us' getaway in a long time, now that our kids are older. Glad you and yours had such a reconnecting time!
